PRIA Celebrates 20 Years Of Serving The Property Records Industry

The Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) marks its 20th anniversary in 2022 and has planned several commemorative activities culminating in a gala celebration at the group’s Annual Conference, August 29-September 1, at the Westin Ft. Lauderdale Beach Resort, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

PRIA was founded back in 2002 on an idea that within the property records industry, government and business can work together, with mutual respect and without acrimony, to address issues of common concern in the world of property transactions. Unparalleled among organizations, PRIA was created based on the concept of “round table” discussions, where participants from all industry segments come together as equals to openly discuss issues relevant to the property records industry and develop consensus-based white papers, best practices and standards for the industry.

In 1997, leaders of two national associations representing county recorders recognized the need for a structured forum to promote better communication and understanding between the industry’s government and business sectors. Through the vision and efforts of the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials & Clerks (NACRC) and the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials & Treasurers (IACREOT), the Property Records Industry Joint Task Force (PRIJTF) was born.

Initially designed as a three-year endeavor, PRIJTF grew to several hundred active participants who gathered in a “town hall” style forum twice a year, and issued white papers on significant issues. Task force participants moved to form a permanent structure for the forum through incorporation and in the fall of 2002, PRIA was born.

Twenty years later, PRIA continues to provide a collaborative environment for the development and implementation of national standards to promote the integrity of the public records system, the efficiency of industry operations and the effectiveness of interfaces between the two.

PRIA’s success depends on the mutual commitment of business and government leaders to achieve their common goal of keeping the nation’s property records industry sound. A series of activities are planned throughout 2022 to recognize the achievements of PRIA over the past 20 years.
