MISMO Updates Reference Model For Servicing, Property Data, And VA Workflows

MISMO released Version 3.6.3 of the MISMO Reference Model, an update that delivers targeted enhancements supporting recent initiatives.

“This release builds on the industry’s progress in addressing long‑standing challenges driven by data variability, manual processes, and inconsistent interpretation of requirements,” said Brian Vieaux, CMB, President of MISMO. “By strengthening industry‑wide alignment, the update reduces friction, improves data quality, and enables faster, more reliable decision‑making across the mortgage ecosystem.”

The MISMO Reference Model provides a standardized structure for representing mortgage-related data across the loan lifecycle. Version 3.6.3 expands the model to support the MISMO Federal Government Housing Agency Servicing Dataset, align property-related data with recent industry and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (GSE) updates, and enable structured data support for the VA Request for Determination of Loan Guaranty Eligibility for unmarried surviving spouses (VA Form 26‑1817). The release also includes targeted maintenance updates that add new data points, enumerated values, containers, and clarifications to improve overall model consistency and usability.

Version 3.6.3 is a backward‑compatible release that introduces additive updates designed to meet evolving industry and regulatory needs without requiring changes to existing technical implementations. The Reference Model package includes XML Schema, JSON Schema and YAML files, the Logical Data Dictionary (LDD), and detailed release notes, providing the industry with flexible implementation options while maintaining continuity across current systems and processes.

The MISMO Reference Model Version 3.6.3 was developed through collaboration across multiple Development Workgroups (DWGs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs), led by MISMO’s Architecture and Information Management teams. Architecture is led by Mark Kleingers of Actualize Consulting and Chris Trujillo of Viant Eye, and Information Management is led by Colleen Flaxington of Freddie Mac and Becky Griswold of PhoenixTeam. Their leadership helped ensure the release balances real‑world business needs with the integrity and scalability of the MISMO standard.
